Supporting cricket across the Mornington Peninsula
It’s been a great summer of cricket. And the Melbourne–Peninsula region’s Community Bank® branches are proud to be the major supporter of the Mornington Peninsula Cricket Association (MPCA).
The MPCA is the home of cricket across the peninsula supporting a league of 36 regional clubs. It’s role includes the administration of local competitions, governance of the sport, promotion of regional cricket and supporting local cricket clubs.
The region’s Community Bank® branches have had a long association with the MPCA, supporting it for a number of years.
“I take the opportunity on behalf of the MPCA to sincerely thank Bendigo Bank’s Community Bank® branches and all our other sponsors. We look forward to their continued support,” said MPCA President, Steve Morone.
There have been a number of highlights this season for the MPCA.
In January 2018, local cricket stalwart, Wayne Landry from the Baxter Cricket Club, played his 600th game of senior cricket. Wayne started playing in 1965 and has played all of his senior games with Baxter. He has played in fifteen grand finals and won six premierships, scoring more than 9,000 runs and taking over 500 wickets.
The MPCA’s under 14 women’s team made the grand final of the inaugural Julie Savage Under 14 Shield, held in Werribee in January 2018. This fantastic young women’s team have had a great season and the MPCA is extremely proud of their efforts as they represent the region.
Mount Eliza teenager, Paddy Rowe continued to impress selectors with his great form in the under 19 championships in Tasmania in November 2017. Rowe has a bright future ahead of him as one of the country’s finest young players.
